stubb’s saga

I work as a professional Toymaker designing and manufacturing a range of timeless toys known by the brand name “Stubbur”. In general the toys are based on Icelandic reality, made out of Icelandic sustainable wood and painted with natural colours, oils and beeswax. At Stubbur me and Sarka Mrnakova, who joined in 2010, also design and manufacture one-off projects for individuals, playschools and play corners for companies, institutions and public buildings. Furthermore I give lectures and courses related to sustainable design. I have taught crafts on most school levels and participated at craft fairs and organized art exhibitions. In 1996 I took part in a very memorable series for Icelandic National Children’s television where we explained virtues  through the toymaker’s work. In the latter years I have been active in developing new ways of craft teaching in Icelandic playschools. I have been a member of the British Toymakers Guild since 1994 and received various grants and rewards for my work. Since 2010 we have expanded into the field of realizing Natural Playgrounds in urban areas under the brand name  SAGE Gardens sf.

“We try to create from the heart. Nature and cultural heritage are great inspirations to us. We want our toys to communicate joy, beauty and peace – but also quality and an interest in life.”
